I'm on the other side of where I was. I don't know what that means- it's the case nevertheless.
To follow up: I didn't get that position, the current assistant or support person did. But, as she's moving up, I was offered the part-time hours she's been working. I took it, and will start in two weeks time. It's only 15hours guaranteed, but for sure a step in the right direction. With this, I'll get buying, ordering experience, training to sub in when the Buyer is ill or away. Higher raise eligibility, therefore.
And it gives me the flexibility I need to work on translations or interpreting gigs. As well as whatever regional archaeological opportunities come up in the spring. You see, I'm on this primo mailing list that gives me weekly updates on digs and surveys and such. Should be interesting to see what comes up...
All this sounds lovely, yet I'm still in the hole and barely covering monthly bills. Which means I wasn't nearly able to do what I would have liked for the seasonal gift shopping. I've learned extra saving strategies though (clever me). Wish me luck in getting back to a higher comfort level.
Currently Hilary's band is practicing in the living room. I like it when that happens.
On a related note, I saw a Digeridoo workshop in the Community Ed booklet- only $15! One time thing, March 1st, maybe breath (breathe breth?) some new life into the instrument for me. I haven't been feeling especially inspired or brave about it; especially it's the latter that matters, getting past my trademark feelings of ineptitude regarding creative work.
More on that soon. Have a peaceful new year.
Or else! ("Am I saying anything to you?")

Happy new year from the south Nic,
It's 'breathe', and you should go for the workshop! You are very talented and should encourage that part of yourself whenever and wherever possible. You never know what life will throw at you next so take advantage when you can. We all wish you a happy new year. May it be the best yet for you.
