yes India!
Hi everyone,
So here is my news: sarajean and I have safely arrived in India, and tonight will spend our 2nd night in Delhi. And Everything here really is as nuts as they say.
Already we've had several adventures, and all before lunch. Mostly the trip's involved surviving as a perceived tourist in the city, since everyone and their mom is part of the tourism industry, and wants a piece of your action. You have to take all things as truth and lie at the same time- so many things are cleared up and then confused right away again.
We're taking a bus to Dharamsala tomorrow... our plan to go via Amritsar will have to wait; it would've been 3 more days in Delhi, and we really don't want that. Using our best judgement, we still may have gotten shafted by $30 on tickets... the only way to know for sure will be to compare with other travelers, our only hope of a more objective story.
It is very hot here of course, but not as humid as we expected, so not as bad as New Orleans or Florida at their worst. Or even Minneapolis for that matter. But it will be good to head for the hills up north on the overnight tomorrow, and especially to get away from the "guides" coming out of every corner here.
Things that seemed logical or reliable anywhere are just not that way here, and I think only experience will make us smarter. Other than these musings, not much to report... our jet lag has been helped by the arnica No-Jet Lag tablets, but that still leaves me with the feeling that I haven't slept much, since, you know, I haven't slept much. A half day's time displacement!
Once I get some pictures I will include in them another mail, probably as a link. Until then wish us well, and safety from the bowel-destructive waters. See you 'round,
Nicolas
